Peacock

Peacock (2022) Liping Yang

Peacock is a dance drama and her choreographer is Liping Yang, one of China's most famous peacock dancers.

The visual design of this dance drama is stunning, both the lighting design and the costumes are exquisite. From the ingenuity of the stage organs to the texture of the feathers on the peacock costumes, I was amazed.

Self-relaxation

On a rare break, I decided to go to Disney alone for a day of fun.

It was a very unique experience and although I was not accompanied by friends and family, it meant that I could travel at my own pace.

For me Disney has always represented a wonderful fairytale world, full of all kinds of magic and wonder. Even though I have grown up and started working, every time I step through the park gates and hear the familiar music I feel like the same 12-year-old girl with a desire for magic and princess dresses.

Watching theatre

A Doll’s House(2023) Shanghai Dramatic Arts Centre

I went to see a play this week that was adapted from a script I have always loved. Of the many previous versions of A Doll’s House that I have researched, this one was certainly innovative, with its use of white as the dominant colour and a very clean presentation. However, I felt that there were some unfortunate aspects of the play, such as the emotional outburst between the hero and heroine in the second half of the play, which was not handled very well by the director and did not convey the strong emotions that I felt in the text when I read the script.

New areas of interest

After talking to my tutor I have decided to try a new area regarding my SIP I intend to produce a piece of work related to set design.

This is going to be a big challenge for me, but I think I will find the best way to accomplish this challenge.

Flippped

I decided to start simple. I chose a film that I had seen many times and decided to try to create a scene for this film.

Pre-vacation fun

Confetti Rabbit (2022) Florentijn Hofman

Every day on my way home from work, I pass the shopping mall in front of my office, where this year's mascot, the "Confetti Rabbit", has already been set up.

On the weekend, I went away for a walk, carrying my camera on my back and taking the underground to a forest park 2 hours away to take photos. The views are so beautiful!

Set design research

My internship is based in Shanghai, China, which is a well-known Chinese city with many performances such as plays, musicals, and dance productions. I went to see them on weekends and found the staging of many of them very interesting, so I spent my spare time researching theatre art and gradually developed an interest in it.

I did a lot of research on set design and I also found a lot of interesting artists.

Always happy ending

Maybe Happy Ending

I went to see a musical that I had previously been interested in, it was about a love story between two robots who are about to be scrapped.

The story as a whole was very light and enjoyable to watch, and the songs in it were very good. I think the most ingenious thing about the whole stage was its backdrop, which used the shape of a vinyl record, and this vinyl record was a key clue throughout the show.

LA mer transcend time

La Mer Transcend Time (2022)

This week I have been assigned the important task of visiting a major La Mer exhibition offline and presenting a case study of the exhibition afterwards, in which I have to summarise my own experience and present it to the client.

The aim of the exhibition was to showcase La Mer's contribution to the beauty industry and how the brand has evolved through a multimedia presentation. The exhibition uses various forms of exhibition content, such as photographs, images and documentation, to guide visitors through the story and values of the La Mer brand.

Exhibition Days

It all begins with an idea.

M50 Creative Park

Today I went to a place called M50 Creative Park, which has many different kinds of exhibitions, and one of the most impressive to me was an exhibition by a Japanese manga artist called Takako Houei, whose exhibition is called Moon in the Pocket. By weaving a fairy tale dream world with a realistic landscape, the characters and animals are made more emotional by using figurative realistic expressions.

Among the facets, the soft and misty watery night mist, rising from the ground; the moon in the forest, falling low on the perimeter of the objects: the stylistic perspective that tends to be flat, the splendid and rich colour spread; and the noble and spiritual temperament of the figures revealed, as well as the loving and warm animal figures cute and The melancholy owl, with its richness and nobility, the pink elephant walking in the forest park, and the quiet free child opposite its distant thoughts, and the green cat occupying the centre of the picture, with its hint of verbal communication and meditative state, unfold this vivid face, seemingly with a sense of human warmth of long-lost reunion.

Weekend of visiting exhibitions

It all begins with an idea.

I decided to get out and about this weekend and I chose in advance the exhibitions.

Linxiang Li (2022)

These are new cold abstract works created by the artist Linxiang Li in recent years. These works take material from everyday life and use abstract expression to present a quiet, distant oriental philosophical rhythm, fusing the elegance, delicacy and depth of traditional Chinese ink painting into a new painting language.

When I look at his work I am always amazed at how someone can express their emotions with a few basic elements and simple compositions. I think this is what I am missing in my work, how to use basic elements and flat language to produce strong work is something I need to address in the next phase.

“The Best Day Ever”

It all begins with an idea.

The Best Day Ever (2022)

This is a musical that I really want to see and it tells a very touching story of family. This musical is not only emotionally compelling, but also focuses on music and artistic expression. The music in the musical is both beautiful and powerful, allowing people to feel the emotions that shape the characters while also shaking them to the core of my hearts. In addition, I was very moved by the small but immersive elements used in the musical scene, as well as the excellent narration of the plot and other aspects of the play. Overall, The Best Day Ever was an excellent musical that was well received by the audience.

First day of internship

It all begins with an idea.

It was the first time in my life that I had entered a corporate internship and I was so excited that when I got my ID card it still didn't feel like everything was real. I was assigned to a creative team and my job was just to support the designers with some basic preparation and research. I made friends with some of the interns in different positions, until now every thing are going well!
